Calgary Farmers’ Market West
When I was in Calgary in the fall of 2022, I was drawn to the lively northwest part of the city, where you’ll find the Calgary Farmers’ Market West. This market is located at 25 Greenbriar Dr. NW, Calgary, AB T3B 6M3, less than an hour from the city’s busy downtown area. It’s super easy to get to. The Farmers’ Market has 54,000 square feet of space.
I was excited to check out the fresh seasonal produce, cool artisanal food, and unique crafts that this market had to offer, especially since I’m a foodie and often visit markets.
At The Calgary Farmers’ Market
My daughter and I visited the Calgary Farmers’ Market. Immediately we walked in, we were hit with the rich aromas of freshly baked bread, roasted coffee, and all sorts of delicious food. The market was warm and inviting, making us feel right at home. It was packed with locals and tourists, all eager to see what the market had to offer. There’s a big area where you can sit, relax, and enjoy everything while eating.
Local Produce, Calgary
Our first stop was the produce area, which was bursting with all sorts of seasonal fruits and vegetables. From crunchy apples and sweet pears to bright pumpkins, squash, peppers, tomatoes, leafy greens, and fresh herbs. It was the peak of the fall harvest. The vendors were friendly and knew their stuff, giving us tips on picking the best produce.
Artisanal Breads and Pastries
Next, we headed over to the bakery stands, where the smell of freshly baked goodies was just too good to resist. There were delicious breads and pastries. Each showed off the skill and passion of the local bakers.
Speciality Meats
For all the meat lovers out there, the Calgary Farmers’ Market West has got you covered with an impressive selection of top-notch, locally-raised options. From juicy steaks and tender lamb to free-range chicken, speciality meats like bison and elk, and even artisan sausages made with unique spice mixes.
Drinks
The drink options were wide and varied—something for everyone. You could grab some freshly brewed local coffee, speciality teas, fresh cold-pressed juices, non-alcoholic fruit wines, and cool craft sodas made with all-natural ingredients. For those looking for something a bit more adult, the market had a great selection of local craft beers, regional wines, and distilled spirits.
Delightful Food Stalls
What made our trip really memorable was the huge variety of fancy food spots we found. We got to taste some unique wines, cheeses, cured meats, and different kinds of dips and spreads. Plus, there were all sorts of oils, vinegar, and even fresh pasta to choose from.
Unique Gifts and Handmade Crafts
On top of the good eats, the market had a bunch of cool gifts and handmade crafts too. From cool pieces of jewellery to some neat woodwork, you could find something for everyone. It was the ideal spot for hunting down special holiday presents.
The kids were not left out.
There’s a play area designated for kids. You could see parents sitting in the area while the kids played.
An Unmissable Location
The Calgary Farmers’ Market West is a must-see location if you’re in Calgary. The market provides a pleasant combination of fresh vegetables, gourmet meals, and unique crafts, etc. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, it’s the ideal spot to spend a Saturday morning taking in the lively scene and helping out the local businesses.
My HAUL
We couldn’t leave without buying some locally-made food and snacks to take home. We bought the most delicious Tripolini Pasta with Beef Bolognese and the most heartwarming and succulent Pork and veal meatballs in delicious Marinara Sauce. We also bought Sugar Tarts, Cinnamon buns, homemade lollipops and a rich Tiramisu cup. Also that bag of peppers.
